Hi ya henn, or ‘good day’ in Scotland. This enthralling country offers a wealth of experiences so what season should you visit Scotland in? Let’s take a look at what time of year may suit you when planning your trip there.
Spring: March – May

A Scottish spring is one of the best seasons to visit in. You can practically feel the country emerging from the depths of winter with longer and brighter days. Nature feels like it’s out in full force from lambing season in the Highlands to cherry blossoms in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens. And to top it all off, Scotland’s event season kicks off with the Beltane Fire Festival (a Gaelic tradition to celebrate the changing seasons) and the first of many Highland Games.
Summer: June – August

Summer brings weather that is more stable, and generally sunnier and warmer. If venturing to northern Scotland, you can even have up to 18 hours of daylight at summer’s peak! This can only mean that the great outdoors is calling. Summer brings the best conditions to venture to an isle like Skye or Orkney, or keep your eyes peeled for an abundance of wildlife from puffins to seals. Festival season also continues on strong in Edinburgh with the world-famous Military Tattoo and Fringe Festival.
Autumn: September – November

Photographers rejoice in autumn with Scotland’s landscapes becoming even more vibrant. Fall foliage spreads across the country, particularly in Perthshire – renowned for being the best place to capture the fiery colours of autumn. It is also deer rutting (mating) season so if you’re around the Cairngorms or Glen Etive, you’ll see and hear these majestic creatures.
Winter: December – February

If visiting in winter, prepare yourself for freezing temperatures and snow! Despite this, Scotland knows how to do ‘cosy’ so it’s still an attractive time of year to visit. Highlights of Scotland’s winter include local Christmas markets filled with sparkling lights, handmade crafts and hot chocolates; and Hogmanay, a Scottish word for the last day of the old year and their way of celebrating New Year’s Eve.
