Exploring a country by train allows you to see it through a whole new lens. Pass through incredible scenery, spot unique wildlife, and sit back and relax! One such incredible train journey is that of the Indian Pacific, named for the two oceans that it meets as it travels across Australia between Perth, Adelaide and Sydney. Join us for an adventure in style as we take you through your experience of a rail journey through Australia.
Day 1 & 2: Adelaide
The coastal capital of South Australia has always been the ‘City of Firsts’. It was the first Australian city to give women access to vote, recognise indigenous land rights, and criminalise racial discrimination. Nowadays, it’s the perfect base city for some of South Australia’s best activities – like a day trip to Kangaroo Island, filled to the brim with native bushland and wildlife. Visit the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park to hear stories of rescuing and treating injured wildlife after the 2020 bushfires (plus your entry fee goes towards this incredible organisation!); explore the rugged Flinders Chase National Park and its famous Remarkable Rocks; and sink your feet into the soft sand at Seal Bay.
Day 3: Adelaide
Of course, a visit to Adelaide wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Barossa Valley! Sample the local drops at Seppeltsfield Vineyard and Jacob’s Creek (with a delicious lunch, too!); then explore the quaint German heritage village of Hahndorf to your heart’s content. Tonight, you’ll be treated to a special ‘Flavours of South Australia’ dinner before starting your journey for the next 2 nights on the famous Indian Pacific. All aboard! You’ll be travelling in Gold Service, so make yourself comfortable in your private overnight sleeper cabin, the separate dining car, or with access to the Outback Explorer Lounge.
Day 4: Aboard The Indian Pacific
Relax in style as you travel through the spectacular expanse of the Nullabor Plain. Despite harsh weather conditions, the Nullabor Plain is home to many animals which you may be able to spot! Keep your eyes peeled for kangaroos, emus, wombats and camels. Tonight’s stop is in Rawlinna. You’ll step off the Indian Pacific to musical entertainment, canapes and drinks around a classic bonfire, before sitting down for a stunning dinner under the stars.
Day 5: Perth
Your journey on the Indian Pacific will sadly come to an end as you arrive in Perth, with the remainder of the day at leisure for you to settle into Western Australia’s bustling capital city.
Day 6: Perth
Known for its Victorian architecture, discover the port city of Fremantle with an orientation tour; before taking the ferry across to Rottnest Island. A protected nature reserve with white sand beaches and secluded coves, it’s also home to the famous quokka – fondly known as the ‘happiest animal on the planet’! After a tour of the island, the afternoon is free for you to get your best quokka selfie, have a dip in the ocean, hire a bike, or just relax on the beach with a good book in hand.
Day 7: Margaret River Region
While on your way to the Margaret River region, stop at Busselton to take an iconic photo of its historic jetty that runs for 1.8 kilometres. Settle in for a couple of nights alongside the waters of Bunker Bay itself.
Day 8: Margaret River Region
A delicious day awaits! Visit Xanadu Winery for a tasting and lunch, established in 1977 as one of the region’s first vineyards with an idyllic setting amongst 65 hectares of vines. Having won the title of ‘Australia’s Best Cabernet’ for the past 7 years, and currently holding the title of ‘Australia’s Best Chardonnay’, you’re in for an absolute treat. From here, you can’t miss the tasting class at the Margaret River Chocolate Factory to round the day off.
Day 9: Margaret River Region
For your last day, what better way to kickstart your day than with at Yahava Koffeeworks? Roasted in Western Australia, wake up your tastebuds by sampling their range. Next, dive into your day (literally!) on a Dolphin Eco cruise in the hopes of meeting the local, curious Bottlenose dolphins. Finally, travel back to Perth for your progressive farewell dinner through the city’s best-kept secrets; a truly memorable way to finish your holiday!
