In line with the annual event of Earth Day, we thought it fitting to shine a light on The Ocean Cleanup for the Globus family of brands’ Lighthouse Project’s April spotlight.

The Ocean Cleanup is a non-profit organisation that is making strides in developing incredible technologies to remove 90% of plastic from our oceans (and rivers). By doing so, this will create a cleaner, greener future for generations to come by assisting our ecosystems and communities around the globe.

We are proud to have been an official partner of The Ocean Cleanup since 2019. We were at the launch of the “Interceptor”, a solar-powered machine designed to extract plastic autonomously from rivers which helps prevent it from reaching the world’s oceans. There are now ten Interceptors working away in some of the most polluted rivers like Can Tho River in Vietnam.

The Ocean Cleanup have also developed System 002 which is deployed in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, located between Hawaii and California. The floating system works to target high density pollution spots and thereby capture the pollution, sort it and recycle it back on land.
