Japan is one of the best foodie countries to visit, and you can’t go wrong in Osaka. Need a quick snack? Try takoyaki, piping hot octopus balls doused in an umami sauce and mayonnaise. Want a savoury delight? Pop into a kushikatsu restaurant in the Tsutenkaku neighbourhood for your pick of deep-fried meat and vegetables on skewers. Feeling adventurous? Don’t miss fugu, puffer fish that is only prepared by trained chefs who can remove its lethal poison. Osaka is a foodie haven for you and your Mum!

2. For the adventurous Mum: Yosemite National Park, USA

If your Mum is an avid gardener, Keukenhof Garden opens its doors to the public for less than two months each year between March and May. Known as the ‘Garden of Europe’, it’s no wonder that Keukenhof sees through over one million visitors each spring! Keukenhof becomes a sea of colour with over seven million tulip bulbs blooming in all the colours of the rainbow. The Netherlands are also highly regarded for their horticultural prowess as the world’s primary exporter of flowering bulbs and plants.

4. For the wine aficionado Mum: Bordeaux, France

To experience your Mum’s favourite tipples in the very region that it was produced would be unforgettable! Bordeaux is one of France’s prized wine regions and considered the wine capital of the world. It is the home of wines such as merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and malbec. Paired with local specialties like duck, aquitaine caviar, oysters, and lamb, you’ll be saying ‘bon appetit’ in no time.

5. For the photographer Mum: New York City, USA
