From late nights rocking you to sleep, to many firsts (first day of school, first tooth lost, first heartbreak), your Mum has been through it all with you. With Mother’s Day fast approaching, why not check out our list of six trips to take with your Mum? A holiday together is an amazing opportunity to make treasured memories and explore the world all at the same time.

For the adventurous Mum: Siem Reap, Cambodia

Siem Reap is a city for the senses. Loud, vibrant, colourful and historic all rolled into one, it’s perfect for the adventurous Mum. Embark on a whirlwind tour of the city’s impressive temples – from the red sandstone walls of Banteay Srei to Ta Prohm, featured in the movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. We recommend two trips to Angkor Wat as well: one to explore its hallowed grounds, and one to experience a magical sunrise or sunset. After some action-packed days, there’s no better way to unwind than with an affordable massage before heading to Pub Street to dine on Siem Reap’s finest specialties.

For the photographer Mum: Santorini, Greece

If your Mum is an avid photographer, we can’t look past a trip to Santorini. There are so many iconic settings to capture on the island. Visit one of its small villages that feature rocky cliffs, rolling hills or azure waters; wander up and down paths taking you past the quintessential white houses with blue roofs; brightly coloured bougainvillea at Akrotiri Lighthouse; or just a sensational sunset.

For the green thumb Mum: Giverny, France

A trip with your Mum to Giverny, France is ideal if she has a green thumb. Giverny is most famous for being the home of Claude Monet’s Garden. Monet’s garden is split into two sections: Clos Normand, a flower garden, and a Japanese inspired water garden. With such contrasts and complements alike, you can see for yourselves just how inspirational this tranquil setting was for the artist.

For the boogie-on-down Mum: Nashville, USA

Nashville is a great choice for a trip with your Mum if she loves to clap along, and boogie on down, to some sweet sounds. Known as the Music City, Nashville is regarded as the birthplace of country, blues and bluegrass music (to name a few!). Not only will you and your Mum be able to expand your musical knowledge at places like the RCA Studio B and the Country Music Hall of Fame, but you can also immerse yourself in live music at a local jazz club or even purchase tickets for the Grand Ole Opry.

For the Royal family enthusiast Mum: Edinburgh, Scotland

If your Mum is a keen follower of the British Monarchy, take a trip with your Mum to Edinburgh. Edinburgh is a city steeped in royal history. Edinburgh Castle has seen many iterations including housing the Honours of Scotland, the oldest Crown jewels in Britain. The retired Royal Yacht Brittania sits in the nearby Port of Leith. The late Queen Elizabeth II’s official residence was the Palace of Holyroodhouse and of course, her husband (Prince Phillip) was given the prestigious title of Duke of Edinburgh the night before they wed. You will feel the royal history come to life as you explore Edinburgh!

For the foodie Mum: Taormina Riviera, Sicily

Taormina Riviera, and Sicily in itself, is a foodie’s paradise. If your Mum is that way inclined – especially if she’s partial to Italian cuisine – then this trip is a no brainer. Both of you can dive into la dolce vita at local markets, restaurants, cafés or even a cooking class! Make sure to have your fill of fresh seafood, eggplant served multiple ways, stuffed artichoke hearts, unique pasta dishes like spaghetti with black cuttlefish ink, and moreish cannoli. And the best part? Sicily is renowned for its traditional breakfast of brioche con gelato…that’s right, a brioche bun filled with ice cream! You just can’t go wrong (or hungry) in the Taormina Riviera.
