Formerly the capital city of Japan, Kyoto is up there in cities to visit with your partner. You certainly won’t fall short of things to do, see and eat here! From immaculate gardens, ancient shrines and traditional wooden houses, Kyoto has a certain charm to it as a romantic destination.

Hot tip: treat your partner to kaiseki dining for dinner one evening. Kyoto is famous for this Japanese tradition, consisting of multiple courses of perfectly presented dishes.

With its stately architecture and mix of European and South American flair, one easily falls in love with Buenos Aires. Even nicknamed the ‘Paris of South America’, it’s no wonder that there’s a seductive energy about it. Adventure hand-in-hand through the colourful neighbourhood of La Boca; shop ‘til you drop in one of the galerías; and wine and dine to you and your partner’s heart’s content.

Hot tip: book yourselves in for an intimate tango show and you may find yourselves dancing the night away!

Québec, Canada

If you and your partner love to indulge in a little culture, Québec is the perfect romantic destination for you. It is renowned for its entertainment culture, being a hub that produces music, movies, festivals, literature and more. You also can’t go wrong with exploring the streets of Vieux-Québec (Old Québec), a truly beautiful part of the city to visit.

Hot tip: time your visit for winter when Québec turns into a real-life winter wonderland. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Bruges, Belgium

A quintessential European city, we guarantee you and your loved one will enjoy spending time in Bruges. Picture medieval buildings flanked by canals and cobblestone streets, and you have yourself a fairytale holiday. Of course, Belgium chocolate is some of the best in the world so sample as many as you can.

Hot tip: Bruges is famous for its lace crafts so you can pick up a unique souvenir to take home from one of the many lace shops around town.

Lyon, France

You know what they say – the way straight to your partner’s heart is through their stomach 😉 and as the gastronomic capital of France, you can’t go wrong with a visit to Lyon.  From saucisson brioche (Lyonnais sausage wrapped in brioche bread) to tarte à la praline (a sweet tart topped with pink pralines), you’ll leave Lyon with full tummies (and a full heart).

Hot tip: café-, bar- or restaurant-hop around the city, tasting as many of the local specialties as you can!

Kauai, Hawaii

Known as the ‘Garden Isle’ of Hawaii, Kauai is the perfect spot for some quality R&R time with your loved one. Whether you’re an active couple or just after some downtime, there’s something for all couples on Kauai. Go ziplining through the rainforest or wile away your time on the soft sand beaches. It’s a real island paradise!

Hot tip: Kauai is home to some of Hawaii’s best natural wonders – like Waimea Canyon – so hire a car so you can explore the island.

Which of these incredible destinations would you visit with your loved one? Take a look at an Avalon Waterways river cruise, or Globus or Cosmos tour.
