With its legendary landmarks, vibrant street art, and unique architecture, San Francisco is a photographer’s playground. Whether you’re chasing the perfect sunrise over Twin Peaks or scoping out street art in the Mission District, there’s an insta-worthy shot to be found around every corner. Here are seven of the best photo spots in San Francisco, USA.

1. The Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco

This one goes without saying. As one of the most photographed bridges in the world, the Golden Gate Bridge is arguably the crown jewel of San Francisco’s photo ops. Whether you’re taking snaps from Fort Point, Bakers Beach, or on the bridge itself (it’s free to walk across!), it’s virtually impossible to get a bad angle of the iconic 2.7-kilometre monument.

2. Painted Ladies & Alamo Square

Painted Ladies, San Francisco

If you can’t resist an aesthetically pleasing backdrop, a visit to the pretty, pastel-hued Painted Ladies is a must. Made famous by the opening credits of Full House, the Painted Ladies are a row of postcard-perfect Victorian homes located across from Alamo Square Park. On a clear day you’ll even see the skyline of the city from here!

3. Mission District Murals

San Francisco is a city that’s overflowing with self-expression, perfectly showcased by its seriously cool street art. The Mission District is where you’ll find some of the city’s best artworks, from the regularly rotating murals on Clarion Alley to the intricate, politically charged pieces on Balmy Street. With so much street art to discover, we recommend taking a walking tour for an insider’s perspective.

4. Chinatown Gate

Chinatown, San Francisco

Trust us, a visit to San Francisco’s vibrant Chinatown is worth it for the dim sum alone. But America’s oldest Chinatown also happens to be a photographer’s dream, bursting with red lantern-lined streets, pagoda buildings, and hidden courtyards. Be sure to get a snap of the ornate, jade-green Dragon Gate – the only authentic Chinatown gate in the United States.

5. Pier 39 & Fisherman’s Wharf

Fishermans Wharf, San Francisco

Sure, Fisherman’s Wharf may be a tourist trap, but the bustling area also happens to be full of fun photo spots. From the famous sea lions lounging on Pier 39 and the colourful boats bobbing in the harbour, to the charming shops and restaurants and the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. While you’re here, it would be rude not to sample some clam chowder – one of the city’s iconic dishes.

6. Twin Peaks

The view from Twin Peaks

If you’re after sweeping 360-degree views of the Bay Area, then you can’t go past Twin Peaks. Perched high above the city at 305 metres in elevation, the popular vantage point serves up spectacular panoramic vistas of the downtown skyline, the bay, Golden Gate Bridge and beyond. We suggest visiting at sunrise to avoid the crowds and to capture the city in all its glory.

7. Sutro Baths

Sutro Baths, San Francisco

Nestled along San Francisco’s scenic shoreline, at the end of the popular Lands End hiking trail, lies the Sutro Baths. These are the ruins of a once grand public bathhouse dating back to 1896. The crumbling complex and surrounding caves, coupled with the coastline’s rugged cliffs and stunning Pacific Ocean views, certainly make for one photogenic pitstop.
