In June, Phoebe – part of our Customer Services team – embarked on an adventure on a 9-day Globus tour ‘Highlights of Spain & Portugal’. Piecing together the best experiences of two sun-washed countries, Phoebe recounts her time spent on tour with us.

Montserrat

The early start for this Optional Excursion to Montserrat was well-worth it! What a way to start my time off in Spain with easily one of the greatest highlights of the trip for me, too. Picture a beautiful monastery atop a jagged, dramatic mountain; a highly significant site for religious pilgrimage, locals and tourists alike.

The Prado Museum

As a self-confessed art nerd, Madrid’s Prado Museum was simply incredible. Home to many famous works by Picasso, Velazquez, Goya, Bosch and more, I could have spent the entire day exploring this impressive museum.

Cordoba

Included as a stop on the way to Seville, I had no idea what to expect from Cordoba but was pleasantly surprised. While it was an especially hot day (hello summer in Spain!), we took a walking tour which concluded at the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba. What a spectacular building! Not only does it have a fascinating history, but it is also so beautiful because it is a combined mosque and cathedral in one.

Lisbon

With an afternoon arrival into Lisbon, we had some free time before the option of two excursions. One was a foodie walking tour and the other a dinner with Fado music (which is what I chose). We headed to a lovely little restaurant where we were serenaded by some talented local musicians, with delicious food and wine throughout. It made for a very memorable evening!

While all our Local Guides throughout Spain and Portugal had been amazing, our one in Lisbon was an absolute standout. She was vibrant, hilarious and so knowledgeable – all great traits that you should have as a guide. The city tour of Lisbon included Jeronimos Monastery, Belem Tower and the Monument of Discoveries.

I had then opted for the Portuguese Riviera excursion which was a top 3 highlight for me (after Montserrat and the Prado Museum). It was jam-packed and well worth the time. My favourite part was exploring Cascais with our guide, a truly stunning part of Lisbon. Cascais ticked all the boxes: gorgeous beaches, great restaurants, beautiful markets and a vibrant atmosphere. Special shout out also goes to the Palace of Queluz with its intricate interior and immaculate gardens. It was an amazing way to spend my last day on this tour!
