New York City. The City That Never Sleeps. Gotham. The Big Apple. Whatever you choose to call it, New York is a lively hub of culture, commerce and creativity. Peel back each of the city’s layers to find out what makes it tick. From history to high-rises, find out why it’s best to discover New York City on a tour with Globus or Cosmos.
Lower Manhattan

Begin your time in Lower Manhattan, the original area where New York began. Initially inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans, it became a Dutch colony in 1624 called New Amsterdam. The English then took control in 1664 and named it New York after the Duke of York. Lower Manhattan is filled with fascinating stories – like Ellis Island, famous for the Statue of Liberty but also where millions of immigrants passed through in search of a better life. You’ll also discover Wall Street, Federal Hall and Trinity Church in this area.
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum

9/11 will forever be remembered as one of America’s darkest days. Today, you can visit the 9/11 Memorial and Museum to learn about what happened and how New York City, and the world, responded. There are now waterfalls inscribed with the names of those who lost their lives that sit in place of the Twin Towers. These are a poignant reminder to those who visit of values such as resilience, unity and hope.
Midtown

As you make your way further north, the skyline grows as towering skyscrapers enter the chat. Join your local guide, a beacon of facts, legends and stories as they showcase the best landmarks. From Fifth Avenue to the Empire State Building and New York Public Library to Times Square, you won’t be short of something to explore.
