Yellowstone National Park
While the USA has 63 national parks each with its own diverse scenery, Yellowstone National Park sure is something special. The geothermal activity contrasts against its almost never-ending greenery, leaving you gobsmacked at its natural beauty. Some of the best places to photograph a sunset at are by getting up into the hills for a panoramic view, or by framing your shot with one of the epic geysers.
Funnily enough, there is actually a place called ‘Sunset Beach’ which comes highly recommended for a sunset photo location! Renowned for having some of the best beaches in the world, Honolulu is a haven for those who love to soak up the sunshine and unwind in a pristine setting right next to the ocean. If you’ve had your fill of Waikiki or Ala Moana Beach Park, choose a short hike at China Walls – a hidden gem for sunset lovers! Boasting panoramic views of the azure ocean, this hike is well worth it!
Houston is a fantastic place to discover the best of the USA’s southern charm. Bursting at the seams with a mix of big-dog corporates, entertainment areas, and green spaces, the ‘Space City’ offers a variety of places to photograph a sunset. For a sunset with the city skyline, head 23 floors up La Meridien hotel to its rooftop bar, Z on 23; or for a sunset with a show, catch one of the free performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre in the evening complete with the last rays of sunshine.
The seaside city of Newport in Rhode Island is a breath of fresh air on the East Coast of the USA. Being at the sea’s doorstep, you can guarantee a beautiful photo down at the harbour, Van Zandt Pier or Bowen’s Wharf. Complete with boats and maritime buildings, there are plentiful backdrops to choose from. If you have the time, we would also recommend going to Brenton Point State Park. With bench seats and an expansive grass area, take a picnic and make an evening out of it!
Renowned for its Danish roots, Solvang is a quaint city that attracts photographers from far and wide. With its Danish-style architecture and wineries, you’ll never be short of a photo opportunity with a charming background. Don’t miss the Old Mission Santa Ines (a restored Catholic Mission), a tipple at the Rusack Vineyards, or a stroll through the Hans Christian Andersen Park.
New York City
If there’s ever an iconic sunset photo taken in the USA, one of New York’s iconic landmarks are guaranteed to be featured. Time your visit to the Top of the Rock’s Observation Deck towards the end of the day; hop on a sunset cruise in its harbour; take a stroll along the High Line in the Chelsea district; or head to The Battery, one of New York’s great parks. Whatever you choose, the concrete jungle delivers every time!
