How long have you been working at Gfob for?
5 and a half years.
How long have you been in the travel industry for?
I have 19 years of experience in the travel industry, with 14 of those years spent at Flight Centre Travel Group. I began my career as a consultant and gradually advanced to the role of Future Team Leader, then Team Leader. After that, I became an Area Leader for Escape Travel in Brisbane before eventually becoming the Regional Leader for Escape Travel Queensland.
What led you to this career? Was this always the plan?
A good mate of mine worked for Flight Centre and said I should apply. Thankfully I took his advice!
Tell me the best thing about working in the travel industry?
This will sound cliché, however one of the highlights of my career has been the chance to explore incredible destinations across the globe. I also value the opportunity to connect and interact with a diverse range of people, both within the industry and beyond.
…as well as the biggest challenge?
I wouldn’t consider it a challenge, but rather something to stay mindful of. The travel industry is constantly changing and evolving. Each week, month, and year brings new and exciting opportunities which I really enjoy.
In five years’ time, I will be…
I’m excited about the next 5 years and hope to visit some of the places I’ve always dreamed of. Travelling to these destinations will give me the chance to dive into new cultures and gain fresh perspectives that enrich my personal growth. I believe these experiences will also bring a spark of creativity and inspiration to my career. My goal is to find a balance that lets me explore the world while reaching important career milestones, so both my personal and professional lives can thrive together.
What is your best piece of advice for anyone looking to work in the travel industry?
Dive right in. It doesn’t matter how much you have travelled or how much you know – having a great attitude and strong willingness to learn is a great start. Once you’re in, the opportunities are endless – whether it be sales, marketing, people & culture, leadership or finance – and you’ll learn skills that will be a great asset across just about every industry.
