Despite many factors changing the world around us every day, we are all fortunate that Mother Nature can still provide us with a plethora of natural phenomenon. To witness these first hand is a once-in-a-lifetime experience so here are four natural phenomena you must see in your lifetime.

1. Aurora Borealis, Iceland

Also known as the Northern Lights, this showcase of dancing lights is utterly mesmerising. Conveniently, it can be seen from multiple locations around the world which gives travellers a greater chance of seeing them – places like Iceland, Alaska, Norway and Canada sit within the correct geographical range beneath the auroral oval. The best time of year to see the Aurora Borealis is between December and March when the nights are long, and skies are clear.

2. Grand Canyon, USA

At 400 kilometres long and almost 2,000 kilometres deep, the Grand Canyon is a magnificent natural wonder carved by the Colorado River. It certainly draws a crowd with almost 6 million people visiting each year. Dive deep into the canyon to find fossils, caves, and prime spots to go rafting and even stargaze!

3. Waitomo Caves, New Zealand

Not nearly as well-known as some of these natural phenomena mentioned in this blog, Waitomo Caves are a hidden gem in New Zealand. There are several options to explore, however the glowworm caves are one of the country’s best natural attractions. Did you know that the glowworm is unique to New Zealand? Thousands of these small creatures light up the cave roof and walls, making your journey through the caves simply magical.

4. Victoria Falls, Africa

Victoria Falls is found on the border of the Zimbabwe and Zambia border. Given they are about twice the height of Niagara Falls, its gushing waters make the largest sheet of falling water in the world! While you can experience the thrill of the falls from the ground, take to the skies in a helicopter to witness Victoria Falls in all its glory.

To line up one of these four natural phenomena, take a look at a Globus or Cosmos tour today!
