If there’s one adventure to add to your Australian bucket list, it’s a trip to the Northern Territory. Globus have created a truly incredible holiday that combines exploring the treasures of the Top End and the iconic Ghan train. You will be transported to another state of mind that raises your consciousness, recharges your serenity, and forever resides in your heart. Let’s dive into this once-in-a-lifetime holiday!
Days 1 – 3: Uluru
What better way to kick off your Top End holiday than standing at the foot of Uluru? This red sandstone monolith is a deeply spiritual place, not just for local Aboriginal tribes but for anyone who visits. With 3 nights included, you will have the chance to experience both sunrise and sunset here to watch the landscape change colour. Also included is a bush-tucker inspired dinner, set on a dune overlooking Uluru. An informative star gazer will help you decode the southern night sky, too.
Day 4: Uluru – Alice Springs – Ghan train
Depart Uluru to make your way to the Ghan train, with a stop at Alice Springs along the way. In Alice Springs, you will check out the famous Royal Flying Doctor Service and learn about this rural initiative. Once you arrive at the Ghan train station, settle in for an overnight journey like no other. The Ghan is an Australian legend and the ultimate journey through the heart of Australia. Sit back and relax as you watch the scenery pass you by, from either the comfort of your cabin or in the restaurant cart.
Day 5: Ghan train – Katherine – Darwin
Delving into Katherine Gorge is simply magnificent. Found in the heart of Nitmiluk National Park, you will discover Aboriginal history, unique wildlife and beautiful scenery. Choose between an included scenic cruise through the gorge; or if you’re wanting to treat yourself, upgrade to a jaw-dropping helicopter ride over Nitmiluk Gorge.
Days 6 – 7: Darwin
Two nights in Darwin allows you to really get a feel for this tropical city. From an insightful visit to the Darwin Museum to chasing waterfalls in Litchfield National Park, you won’t fall short of things to see or do!
Days 8 – 9: Kakadu National Park
To round off your time in the Top End, you can’t miss Kakadu National Park! Kakadu plays an integral part in preserving the greatest variety of ecosystems in Australia. It is also home to ancient Aboriginal rock art at Nourlangie, a plethora of crocodiles (and other wildlife!) and spectacular scenery – all of which you can discover for yourself.
Days 9 – 10:
Return to Darwin for your last night on tour for a final farewell dinner with your newfound friends and Tour Director at a local restaurant – a chance to reflect on your time spent in the Northern Territory and on the iconic Ghan. Until we meet again!
