Paris is easily one of the most photogenic cities in Europe. It has an alluring mix of pretty streets, iconic sights, grand architecture and charming daily life, so you can be guaranteed to fill your camera roll when visiting! Here are nine of the best photo spots in Paris.
1. Bir-Hakeim Bridge
Constructed in the early 1900’s, the Bir-Hakeim Bridge connects the 15th and 16th arrondissements over the Seine River. There is a metro line on the upper level, but it is pedestrian-friendly underneath. Not only do you have a great view of the Eiffel Tower from the bridge, but you can also take some neat industrial photos underneath it.
2. Rue de l’Université
While popular with many travellers, we think the Rue de l’Université is one of the best places to photograph the Eiffel Tower. There are so many angles to this spot, featuring a charming cobblestone street and apartments dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
3. Promenade Plantée
Similar to New York City’s Highline, the Promenade Plantée is an old railway line turned elevated footpath. It runs from the Bastille to Bois de Vincennes with unique views of Paris at every turn – perfect for capturing the nearby architecture and city from 10 metres above street level.
4. Alexandre III Bridge
The Alexandre III Bridge is probably the most famous in Paris. It connects two major landmarks – the Invalides on the Left Bank and the Grand and Petit Palais on the Right Bank. It has grand decorations like four gilt bronze winged horses (that represent the fields of Arts, Sciences, Commerce and Industry), as well as cherubs, lions, nymphs and other mystical creatures. You can capture it from standing on the bridge and from the riverbanks.
5. Jardin des Tuileries
It would be remiss of us to leave out the Jardin des Tuileries in this list. The grounds are perfectly manicured with sculptures, flora and fauna, a marble arch and even a seasonal ferris wheel. The gardens are well-known for their fountains and signature green Senat Chairs – named after the French Senate – which provide a relaxing spot to people-watch.
6. Montmartre
Montmartre is an artist’s dream neighbourhood, having had the likes of Salvador Dalí, Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso live here at some point. Pinpointed with the stark white Sacre-Coeur sitting high above Montmartre’s streets, this neighbourhood is full of cafes, bakeries and quaint streets to photograph. If you’re game, climb 300 steps to the top of the Sacre-Coeur’s tower for one of the best (and cheapest) views across Paris.
7. Le Marais
Another quintessential Parisian neighbourhood, Le Marais has a wonderful mix of new and old. We adore Place des Voges, one of the oldest squares in Paris. This tranquil spot is surrounded by red brick buildings that cover a small shopping arcade.
8. Rue Crémieux
Hailed as the most colourful street in Paris, each home located along Rue Crémieux is painted an epic shade of the rainbow. Go early to get that perfect snap of the full street.
9. Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann
Not only is Galeries Lafayette one of the biggest department stores in Paris, but it also has one of the most gorgeous photo spots! Head to the eighth floor to find its rooftop terrace et voila – panoramic views of the Eiffel Tower looking to Montmartre.
Say ‘bonjour’ to Paris on an Avalon Waterways river cruise, or a Globus or Cosmos tour.
