Western Australia is incredibly vast, diverse and is the largest state covering nearly one-third of the country! The state’s capital, Perth, is home to a vibrant beach, food and drink scene. But outside the city, you might just find yourself on beautiful white-sand beaches with only kangaroos or quokkas for company, or face-to-face with a colourful collection of wildflowers.

So what does 7 days in Western Australia look like, you wonder? Below is an itinerary we put together that shows all that this beautiful state has to offer.

Day 1 – Perth

Perth, Australia
Perth Culture & Art Walking Tour

Welcome to Perth, Australia’s sunny capital!

Start the day with a walking tour through the city of Perth where you will see first hand the culture and art. There will also be time for a coffee stop with some chocolate tasting. If a walking tour isn’t your thing, then there is a Hop On Hop Off bus option too.

Why not take a lunch stop at Elizabeth Quay which is situated on the Swan River with its lovely views, restaurants and incredible hand-crafted gelato at Gusto Gelato? Afterwards, have a wander around the Quay and take a look at the many attractions on offer such as the Bell Tower.

Enjoy a nice relaxing afternoon in Kings Park with a visit to the Botanic Gardens which has displays of over 3,000 species of the State’s unique flora.

Day 2 – Margaret River via Busselton

Busselton Jetty, Western Australia

First stop is Busselton! Enjoy some time strolling along the 1.8 kilometre jetty, and if you have time check out the Underwater Observatory – voted the Number 1 Aquarium in the South Pacific.

Continue onto the Margaret River region where there is so much to see and do! Start off the right way with a visit to the Cheeky Monkey Brewing Co. for a sampling of some craft beers and ciders.

A day of wining and dining is ahead of you…visit the beautiful Bettenay’s Margaret River to indulge in a wine and nougat pairing, then continue feasting at Xanadu for an incredible lunch and tasting of their wines.

If the wine and food coma has not struck you, you can opt to go on one of the many walking trails Margaret River has to offer, or sit back and relax while sampling more of the amazing wines on offer.

DAY 4 – Fremantle via Gnomesville

Head to the home of 10,000 Gnomes in Gnomesville, hidden amongst the natural bushlands. Be sure to bring your own gnome to place amongst the rest of them with a quirky one liner!

Continue onto the port city of Fremantle for a tour through the historical city centre. Visit the Fremantle Prison, or if you’re wanting to enjoy a bit more of a relaxing afternoon why not try some craft beers at Little Creatures Brewery? If your visit coincides with a Friday, Saturday or Sunday don’t miss the markets.

DAY 5 – Rottnest Island

Enjoy a short scenic ferry ride over to Rottnest Island and let the adventure begin!

The limit doesn’t exist with adventures and activities; you can do anything from hiring a bike, embarking on a walking tour, going to the beach for a snorkel, or just sit back and relax with a drink in hand.

With so much to see and do, we’d recommend spending a night or so here (however doing a day trip is always an option if you’re short on time).

DAY 6 – Rottnest Island

Enjoy another day of fun and discovery where you can do as little, or as much, as you like. Don’t miss the opportunity of taking a selfie with a gorgeous Quokka – known as the happiest animal in the world.

Day 7 – back to the mainland

Margaret River

Take the ferry back to the mainland where your adventure may end, or continue, with so many more things to see and do in Western Australia!
